Would you pledge a donation for cancer research? [May. 14th, 2009|12:22 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , ]

Greetings, all!

A good friend of mine lost his father to cancer last year. To raise funds for cancer research, he has created an event (which he intends to run annually) which is pretty unique -- an archery tournement! The first annual Arthur J. LeBlanc "Take A Shot At Cancer" 600 Round will be held Saturday, May 23, 2009.

Information on the event: www.takeashot.org

Richie/Li and I are registered to participate, and we have been collecting pledges of donations. All contributions will go to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute to support cancer research. If you would be willing to make a donation, I would be very grateful. Please let me know by private e-mail so I can add you to my pledge sheet. If you will see me before next Friday (May 22), I can collect your cash or check to turn in at the event. If you would like to mail a check or money order, the mailing address is on the event website. If you prefer, there's a link for PayPal donations on the website as well. (If you mail or PayPal a contribution, please include a note that you're supporting me -- S u s a n K e l l .)

Many thanks for your generosity!

PS - As most of my friends here are in the SCA, I'll share that the folks running this event are also SCAdians: Lord Curran Frostfeather is the event coordinator; Lady Siusaidh Loineag is providing administrative support; the tournement director is Lord Duncan Stewart (of Archery USA in Dedham Mass.)

"Ruth" needs a new home [Sep. 28th, 2008|03:12 pm]

My friend Amy (Lady Adelaide in the SCA) is a Navy wife who is moving from Virginia to Hawaii in a month, and she is sorry to need a new home for her cat. "Ruth" is a really sweet, plump, old gray tiger cat. She has lived with dogs and another cat, and deals fine with that as long as she has her own space. I've kwown her over the years & like her a lot, but we can't take her in ourselves. If you, or anyone you know, could possibly add Ruth to your family, please message me & I'll give you contact info for Amy.

Warm wishes,

Subject: Please help Ruth find a home!

Well folks, it is 1 month to go before we leave for Hawaii. Miss Ruth still has no new home to go to. I really really need your help to find her a home before we leave. As it is, I am going to go put her name on the list at the local No-Kill shelter as a last resort, but I know space is very tight there and they may not have room for her. That is my last resort. I never wanted it to come to this, but if we have to put her in a shelter we will.

The Bio:

Mistress Ruth is 17 years young, in very good health, up to date on all of her shots and spayed. She prefers to be an only cat, or at least have her own space in the house to hang out in. She is very friendly though would do better with adults than very young kids. She is very reliably litter trained. All she wants is a bed and sunbeam to snooze in, a full bowl of food to partake of and clean water. She love scritches on the head and will snore if given catnip.

Please please help us find her a home. She has been a very loyal and faithful companion for the last 12 years and my heart breaks at the thought of her not havng a home. She will not do well in a shelter, the stress of all of the other cats and the tight quarters would just drive her nutty. She is not making the trip to Hawaii with us for that same reason. We can only have 2 pets in housing and honestly I thouhgt it would be easier to place her than it has been.

Please foward this to any and all who might be interested.

Thank you,

Catching up [Sep. 5th, 2007|03:18 pm]
[mood |calmcalm]

Thanks to all for the birthday wishes!

I'm old. Really old. A significant number old. At least I'm in much better shape than my mother was at this age -- and it's *her* 75th birthday today. Getting old beats the alternative!

Happy Birthday, Fiana -- I had no idea we shared the date. Yay, Virgos...

This evening I'm headed for Sunapee NH to give my sister (N) a hand. She is having shoulder surgery tomorrow. Her injury is the same as R's was; I hope her surgery goes as well as his did. I expect to help N with her jitters tonight, act as her chauffeur and support tomorrow, then help her with a few essentials and cat care for a couple of days. She is independent and stubborn (runs in the family!), so I expect she won't need much help from me. The rest of my visit, I'll visit my land and shack, and go out on the pond in my canoe. I'm looking forward to recharging my batteries.

Admitting defeat in the "cat war" [May. 13th, 2007|02:32 pm]
[mood |sadsad]

We knew there were risks and that a second cat might not work out. She hasn't. "Echo" needs a new home. She's a great cat, but she and Sputnik have escalated hostilities. Please read:

I'm NOT a red-shirt! [May. 31st, 2006|11:53 am]
[mood |annoyedannoyed]

I visited a friend's LJ and, for fun, took the "What StarTrek character are you?" quiz (at: http://www.seabreezecomputers.com/startrek ) I'm mildly insulted that it says I'm a RED SHIRT. Sheesh...

Crying "Uncle!" [Mar. 24th, 2006|06:07 pm]
[mood |happyhappy]

While helping friends move recently, I was told that I must be the only person present who didn't have a LiveJournal. I decided to see what all the "buzz" was about. Sure enough, this is the time-sink I believed it would be -- and it's addictive. So, today I gave in to the Peer/peer pressure and created an ID. I don't expect to have much time to post anything, but at least I'll now have better access to what others provide.
Hello, all!
